Colossians 3:14 says, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

The virtues that Colossians is talking about are: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:14 tells us over all these virtues put on love…who are we loving FIRST?

Who is it that we are loving first? I think that is a question that we can all ponder a bit. I know it strikes a chord with me. Are we loving our spouse first…or our children…or our church…or our reputation…or our “things”…or our relationships…or ministry? All of the things listed are incredible gifts from the hand of our Father and what a blessing they are! I can look back on specific periods in my own life when I asked God for these very blessings and He has been so faithful, generous and good to me.

But in lack and in abundance, are we loving Him first?

I am continually moved by all that the Lord does for people. He takes hopeless situation and fills them with new life and blessing.

He takes broken, dry hearts, soaks them in His Presence and sets them passionately ablaze for His glory.

He speaks “fullness of joy” to us and gives us the strength to face any situation.

The miracles of mercy He performs are enough to bring tears of gratitude and shouts of joy!

But today, it is my prayer that when each of us experience the power of our Father and encounter Him in our homes and lives. That our reaction, that MY reaction, would be to go to my knees, to spend more time with Him. Understanding that it is His very essence that I desire most and that meets the deepest needs of my heart.

It is not the blessings He provides or the miraculous acts He performs that equips me for serventhood, but the love that He lavishes on us. His Presence enables us to be compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient and out of that His glories shines bright!

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

Learning to put my First Love first,
