Candy Gibbs

When Candy asked me to write a blog, I was very hesitant. What do you want me to write about I asked? After a few motivational nudges from her, I decide I would give it a shot. Here is my Inaugural Blog:

<img title=”Greatness” src=”https://candygibbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/dad-son-300×238.jpg” alt=”Candy Gibbs, Brian Gibbs, Pearls curriculum, Chosen curriculum, Purity Curriculum, parenting, parents, parenthood, parenting resources, positive parenting, raising children, help for parents, parent help, teenagers, how to parent a teenager, how to parent, parents of teenagers, purity, mentoring, mentor, mentors, mentor programs, mentoring programs” width=”300″ height=”238″ />

I write this blog from the Newark airport. Certainly not the most inspiring place to write from so why do I feel compelled to write about “greatness”? I sit here pondering what I was blessed to be part of this past weekend. Greatness perfectly describes the experience I had at the United States Military Academy at West Point. I witnessed and was honored to be part of a pinning ceremony for my younger sister’s promotion to Lt. Colonial in the U.S. Army. The legendary Thayer Hotel was host to Lt. Colonel Leslie Gibbs Walthall’s great moment. I could not help but think about the many celebrations the Thayer has hosted over the past couple of centuries and the great people there that night to celebrate with us.

So as I, and those at the party, travel back to the daily grind and the routine of our lives I think about how we should be great every day. We will all have those special, great moments that we celebrate, our moments, and the moments of those we care about…these are important. But more importantly, how are we exhibiting greatness every day?

And since Candy asked me to join her on the blog, I think we should take the next couple of blogs and explore greatness.

I would like to address most of this discussion to the men readers, the dads out there.

Are you being great every day?

Yes, some days are greater than others, but every day should be great!

Why? BECAUSE your family needs you! You only have so much time to make an impact! And Satan knows this! He wants to take you and your family out!

In the next blog we will talk about daily greatness. I am an avid reader but there have been a few books that have had significant impact on me. Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture; John Eldridge, Wild at Heart and Waking the Dead, as well as Steven Pressers, Gates of Fire. All of these books have a common theme, stop complaining about your situation and work hard for greatness! My writings over the next few blogs will be inspired by these authors. I challenge you to think about what you are doing daily to strive for greatness!! Comment below.

Until next time,

Brian
