If You Want To Be Treated Like a Princess…Dress Like One.

I had to share this excerpt from a longer, beautiful piece, by my friend Paige. What powerful words I hope we will all share this with the young girls in our lives!

I talk to girls all the time about relationships and why they can’t find “Mr. Right”, “Prince Charming”, or the “Guy of their Dreams” and time after time they say, “Where are the gentlemen? Where has the chivalry gone?” This always kind of bothered me…hang with me for a second…that’s putting way too much responsibility on the guy and taking it all off of us. Yes, we are to be respected and treated like the young ladies and women that we are and yes, guys should be gentlemen without us having to ask them…BUT have you ever stopped to think that we could be half the problem? We could actually be more than half the problem.
Hear me out, time and time again girls in the church are told to dress modestly and we whine, and complain, and say how tiring it gets but have you ever stopped to think why this is such a big deal? Those much wiser people may be trying to tell us something so I’m going to try and communicate this in the most loving and respectful way I know how.
GIRLS IN THE CHURCH, PLEASE STOP MAKING YOUR BROTHERS STUMBLE! Every time you walk out of the house with your really short shorts, your tight shirt that is possibly not covering your stomach, or even wearing clothing that is hugging your every curve, you make a guy lust after you. Is that really what you want? This is going to sound harsh but please listen to my heart – in Proverbs 2:10-18 the writer is advising his son about Wisdom and an Adulterous Woman and it says “When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you…” It goes on to talk about how wisdom will deliver him from the way of the wicked and from perverse things then it says this, “To deliver you from the immoral woman, from the seductress who flatters with her words, who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. For her house leads down to death…” Looking at this passage one thing particularly stands out, “forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God” this, to me, speaks of compromise. She has turned away from what she was taught when she was young and has given herself to the world only to forget about the covenant she made with God. How does someone do this? COMPROMISE, “to reduce the quality, value, or degree of something”.
Here’s the thing, If we allow compromise to creep into our lives and fall into the temptation of letting it toy with us, then we might ultimately find ourselves becoming a pawn in Satan’s plan to cause someone else to stumble. Compromise and Competition are two of the biggest lies that the enemy uses to make a strong person, relationship, and even church crumble to the ground. If we, as the church, would wake up and realize that this life is not about us then we would take the time to think about how our lives are influencing those around us. As girls, we must realize that we may need to sacrifice looking like the girl on the magazine in order to protect the guys around us. They already have enough distractions; do you want to be another one?
The way you dress, act, and talk correlates directly with how people treat you, especially guys. Agree with me or not but think about this, Miley Cyrus has completely changed her attitude, the way she dressed, and the way she presents herself; therefore, other people choose to treat her like the way she presents herself, trashy. Now let’s look at Kate Middleton, of course she’s a princess and is raised to a higher standard, but people respect her and treat her well because of how she dresses, talks, and presents herself. You may think that these are completely from two different worlds but just think about it, as Christians we are raised to a higher standard.
You are Beauty (Psalm 45:11), You are Free (Romans 6:22), You are Destined (Ephesians 2:10), You are Beloved (Romans 9:25), You are Fashioned (Genesis 1:27), You are Wonderfully Made (Psalm 139:14), and You are Worth It! (John 3:16)
Let’s start on a journey to discover who we are in Christ and let’s learn how to fall more in love with Him and the things we seemed to compromise for won’t even matter. As cliché as it may sound, we are princesses of an Almighty King and He wants you to come into His presence and find out who you truly are!
