Recently, I was in a meeting with an amazing group of women that I am privileged to serve with at CareNet.  I enjoy every chance I have to spend with them.  They are each uniquely gifted and absolutely in love with our Jesus to the core of their being.  One of the gifts so many of them possess is the ability to prepare meals that are simply divine!  We laughed and exchanged gifts and considered the joy of the season and the upcoming year.

This annual gathering is also the time of year that I pass on the vision the Lord has laid on the hearts of our Board of Directors and on mine.  I think even with all of the fun that is had, everyone tends to hold their breath a little as we look ahead.  I can’t say that I blame them!  Over the last year, we transitioned one of our locations into a better facility, hired a few new staff positions, and opened our fourth office.  We are finishing up a parenting book and our mentoring programs continue to grow each year.  Being completely honest, as I began to sit down with the Lord to consider His plans for us for 2014 I was a little apprehensive myself.  It seems we have been running fast and hard for quite some time.

One of the beautiful things about this journey we are all on is the changing of seasons.  We all go through different times in our lives; times of sowing, times of harvest, times of plenty, leaner times, times to advance and take new ground, and thankfully there are times to simply possess your land, the land you have been given.
I love the story of Caleb.  You remember that Caleb was one of the twelve spies that Moses sent to search out the Promised Land.  He and Joshua were the only two who came back with the conviction that the Israelites could possess the land.  Because of his faith, forty five years later, at the age of 85 his feet would settle in the soft, fertile soil of Hebron.

“So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance and that of your children forever, because you have followed the lord my God wholeheartedly.’”  Joshua 14:9

Sometimes the Lord’s plan for us is to simply possess the land He has given us. Can you imagine a time that you would even survey your land with Him the way Moses did?  Wow.  I believe that the Lord gives us areas in our life to take for His Kingdom and that almost always means a battle to get it done.  But He doesn’t merely intend to win a battle for the sake of saying He won.  He has a plan for that ground you have taken.  Sometimes the season you are entering is a season in which you are simply supposed to survey the land.  Walk out to its furthest boundary.  Consider the space.  Consider the resources.  Ask Him for His direction.  But then, we must possess it to its fullest capacity.  Make that space sing His praise and those resources bring Him a great return.

Enjoy those seasons of possessing.  There will be times of advancing coming.  But for today, I’ll meet you on the back 40 and will celebrate the boundaries He has laid.   And next December we will see our wide open spaces, filled with lives touched by His Provision.

Happy New Year,
