Praying for a Prodigal with Suzanne Schroder

My friend Suzanne is a powerful prayer warrior. She is a cancer survivor, mother of 4, and grandmother of 8! She has recently begun a blog, 365 Days Praying for a Prodigal. She says “I have seen God’s faithfulness in the lives of my children over many years. He WILL fulfill His purposes for our children’s lives, so you can be at peace concerning them.” Wow, don’t we all want that? “Peace concerning them.” I just love what she has to say here, from her Day 69 post…
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
My sons in the Army and Navy are adept at using weapons…all kinds, but they have gone through intense training on how to use each one to bring down an enemy. I can’t imagine the military letting their enlistees run around, willy-nilly, with weapons they know nothing about. How insane would that be? I think the Christian life is the same. We have amazing spiritual weapons that are at our disposal but we must learn how to use them against our enemy. The weapon of “taking thoughts captive” is a powerful tool of the Spirit.
I looked up the definition of pretension — “ a claim or the assertion of a claim to something”. I believe the enemy has laid claim to some things that are clearly not his. That’s why it’s so important for a prodigal to be reminded of what God say’s they are and have in Him. It’s ammunition against the schemes of the enemy.
As I pray this verse over a prodigal, I visualize a mighty warrior (or soldier) who has a great arsenal of weapons. They not only possess these weapons but also know how to use them to shoot down every argument of their enemy and destroy every claim he thinks he has on their life.
Let’s use some spiritual weapons to go to battle for our prodigal today….I’m ready!
