Parents,

Consider this quote from an anti-pornography advocacy website called Fight the New Drug, “They (teens, 12 year olds as the article’s title suggests) know, or think they know, a few other things, too. That oral sex doesn’t count as sex. That sending nude pictures via text or Facebook is the new flirting. That boys their age watch porn regularly, and demand from their girlfriends the sexual menu they see online – hairless, surgically-enhanced bodies, ‘girl-on-girl action’, and much, much more.”

Let me begin by saying this article is trash.  I am not suggesting that you read it.  First of all, middle school boys do not all watch porn regularly and demand from their girlfriends the “sexual menu” they see online.  I only decided to use this quote from the article to wake us up.   Parents the time has come that you must be fully awake!

Your teens are hearing non-stop praise of immorality and dysfunctional sexuality.  From Bruce Jenner to the legalization of homosexual marriage…they are bombarded with conversations and information that makes my stomach turn.  One thing is certain, if we as parents are not diligent, informed and committed and our children are allowed to idolize the Kardashians, Miley Cyrus, and countless others, they will become everything this culture has to say about them.

In a 30-second promo for MSNBC’s Lean Forward campaign, Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry advocates that society end the “private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families,” and instead institute a “collective notion” that kids “are our children,” they belong to the community.

In the MSNBC advertisement, Perry says, “We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children: your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children.”

Christian parents, are you listening? Our children belong to Almighty God, not to us, and most certainly not to this liberal society.

Please be involved.  Pay attention to what your children watch and listen to.  Consider those they look up to and view as role models.  Model a relationship with Christ that is alive and thrilling.  Lead your family along the path of righteousness.  Choose wisely.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground and after you have done everything, to stand…With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:10-13 & 18

Lord Jesus, make us fully awake and alert.  We trust you.  Amen.

My love,
