Have I mentioned that I love food all the time and especially at Christmas?  Some of my favorite Christmas traditions involve food and the kitchen!  My sister, mom, and I began our “holiday baking day” before either Cara or I were married.  We have laughed together, sampled each delectable bite, and made precious memories.  My mom’s last baking day was in December of 2010, but Cara, our daughters, and I have carried on with mom’s sweet laugh always near in our thoughts.

I have passed the tradition on to my sweet grand-girl, Bayler, and last year she received her apron!

We also have a Christmas tea each year for Madi and my nieces and a few of their friends.  Finger foods, desserts, and different hot teas are in order with gift exchanges and giggles.

My favorite dishes for Christmas morning are Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls and a crock-pot breakfast casserole.  Both of which can be prepared the night before.  I decided years ago, that I would not miss the family time to linger near the tree on Christmas morning, because our breakfast had to live up to Martha’s standards.  Food and the kitchen have a unique way of fostering fellowship…may your Christmas be filled with full tummies, tables, and hearts.

My Favorite Christmas Crock-Pot Recipe:

Gigi’s Christmas Breakfast

1 lb sausage (browned)

12 eggs

1 cup milk

salt & pepper

1 pkg (2 lbs) hash browns O’Brien potatoes with diced onions and peppers

1 tomato diced

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Brown sausage.  In a large bowl, beat eggs together with milk, salt & pepper, stir in sausage. potatoes O’Brien, tomato, and cheese. Spray crock-pot with cooking spray, pour in egg mixture. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve with sour cream, salsa, or ketchup.

A few more fun Christmas in the kitchen ideas:

Make Christmas cookies.

Serve a red and green themed meal.

Make homemade caramel corn.

Eat “reindeer droppings” for breakfast (donut holes!).

Make gingerbread cookies.

Make edible Christmas trees out of upside-down ice cream cones, green frosting, and sprinkles.

Decorate a gingerbread (or graham cracker) house.

Invite a few friends over for a cookie decorating party.

Melt chocolate into Christmas molds.

Make eggnog and serve with freshly grated nutmeg.

My love,
