Candy Gibbs

A good friend reminded me of this saying recently, “When the student becomes the teacher…”  How often does that happen in your home?  It sure happens quite often in mine.

It has been an extremely busy season for my family.  We are no different from you.  The end of the school year brings lots of fun and activities.  My husband is a professional with a demanding position.  My office at CareNet has been busying with new character programs, mentoring programs, and just the daily joys of visiting with families.  My college boy is home and my daughter is officially a senior! Our grands and oldest son and daughter in law are doing great and finishing first grade for their oldest. My days begin far before the sun rises and often times carries over into the early morning.  As I write this post it is after 10:00 pm.  Such is the life of an active family in 2018.

Seems that it often takes me many trips around the mountain to learn a lesson.  I must admit that there have been a few times over the last few weeks that I haven’t handled it all really well.  A few years ago, at about this same time of the year, I was yet again not handling stress and activity too well. I became keenly aware of my struggle when I read my son’s entry in our journal.

We had been talking about stress and how it makes us feel earlier in the evening.  Later that night, here is what I read in his journal…

Rate your stress level…

Level 1 – 3:  You can handle it.  You are just worried.  That’s not good.

Level 4 – 5:  The situation really is as big as you think it is.  Do you have it under control? Did you do your best or did you work hard?

“Mom, that’s how I calm myself down when I feel stressed. You’ve got this.”

Tonight, I will take his advice.  My situation isn’t as “big” as I have made it and it rarely ever is. He does have it all under control.  Tomorrow will worry about itself…but tonight, we are blessed. Things aren’t perfect. All the boxes haven’t been checked off and work is still left undone. But rather than “toil” and struggle, I think I’ll pour myself some coffee and watch my reruns of “This is Us”.  So, as we say where I come from…Nite, y’all!

Matthew 6:25 “Do not worry about your life…”

Matthew 6:27 “Who do you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself…”
