Humility. What a difficult issue humility can be!  We want our children to be confident and not to struggle with insecurity.  Our desire as parents is that they would accomplish the fullness of God’s will for their lives…that they would absolutely exhaust their full potential.  Humility – where does it fit?  My friends would tell you that I am fairly black and white.  For me, most instances are one or the other…so as I began to think about humility, my thoughts would go to insecurity or lack of confidence.  However, when I began to seek it out in the scripture, I discovered that humble people are absolutely secure in who they are and in whose they are.

John 13:1-17 is the beautiful story of Jesus, the son of God, the Messiah, washing the feet of His disciples.  Can you understand why Peter first did not want Christ to wash his feet?  It seemed backward and wrong.  I mean, shouldn’t Peter and the other disciples wash His feet?

I want you to read again a very important verse in the story…it is verse 3:  “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.”  SO He washed their feet.

Do you know what that tells us?  That Jesus knew who He was and whose He was!  In order for us to be confident in humility and in serving others, we must know who we are and to whom we belong!

1.) Pray that our children would get a revelation of who they are in Christ – that they are truly chosen by the Most High. Colossians 3:12; Psalm 4:3; Hebrews 7:36

2.) “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.”  SO He washed their feet. Our families are chosen, holy and dearly loved and they belong to God!  Before they can be servants and minister to others, they must understand that they are children of our great King!

3.) Humility and meekness have a meaning that relates to a wild animal in restraint. Our children have strength in them; strength comes from the Holy Spirit alone.  They do not have to walk on other people or have a prideful spirit in order to proceed with confidence in what the Father has called them to.  Pray that they would get a heart understanding of that.
