Overcoming Your Past-Part 2
Posted on November 15, 2018 in Community, Ministries, Speaking
I know that all of you are running your race. I know that your heart is to chase hard after the Lord. I know that you want to pursue the passion that He has placed in your heart.
Yet, I know that you get tired. What if we get tired and weary because we are carrying unnecessary things? We all have seen the sled that football players will tie to their waist and then run with in practice…the sled always not too far behind them. They don’t move very quickly and are having to exert a lot of energy, but it is building strength for them to run faster and longer without it. You don’t, however, see them running with the sled tied behind them in the middle of a game. The Lord brings beauty from ashes and uses our past to make us stronger; it was never intended to be used in “the game”, to run with long term. So what is your “sled”- the thing that keeps you from running and holds you back? Is it unforgiveness from past hurts? A secret sin? Self-hatred? Addiction? Anger?
Your enemy accuses you before God day and night. As long as I am keeping my sin and my past a secret, in the dark, the enemy will use it against me. I may have confessed it to God, and if I have I am forgiven, but if I am keeping it a secret then the shame is all the enemy needs to blackmail me. What if anyone knew this about you? You, mister Christian, have struggled with pornography? You little miss goody two shoes, you got drunk and now you think you can tell anyone about God? You have had sex before marriage…who will ever want to marry you or what will people think?
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” James 5:16
The promise is that when we “confess to one another and pray for one another,” we will be healed!
There are two parts to overcoming your past:
Revelation 12:10
“And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. AND THEY HAVE CONQUERED HIM BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB AND BY THE WORD OF THEIR TESTIMONY.””
- The blood of the lamb…confess to Him and He will forgive you.
- Confess to someone you trust. You will be healed. Shame will be defeated. No more blackmail. The enemy has no right to tell your story. You have a testimony and he is defeated.
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
I am Praying for you!
