Purpose for Your Life- Part 2
We have been talking about purpose and understanding that purpose is not a destination, but it is the process, the daily journey. As you continue to walk in your purpose today, here are a few things I would like to remind you of:
1.) The Lord is not rethinking you. You are not on plan b.
He has not given up on you and He isn’t scratching his head trying to figure out how He can rearrange your mistakes to try and salvage the whole plan. He has a plan. He has a plan for YOU.
“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29
2.) Not every decision has a right and a wrong. Sometimes it is a matter of what you want to do. What is the desire of your heart?
Psalm 37:4 tells us to delight in the Lord and He will give us desires. What are the circumstances, the situations that make you feel fully alive? That place where you feel as though you are standing in your space, your calling? As long as your delight is in Him, He will give you His desires and you have the green light to chase hard after those things.
3.) Don’t compare your calling to someone else.
Callings are not something that are “drummed up”. Your calling is not something that you have to orchestrate. Sure, we need to have a good work ethic. We need to set goals. We need to operate in excellence in all things as a good testimony of the King. But you are not trying to create your calling or purpose. He simply leads you into it. Whatever His calling is for you, He is there. The precious feet of the Dream Giver firmly planted in the soil of your inheritance, leading you there. The key is to see Him, listen to Him and follow. Simple.
Purpose aren’t to be compared. It is sure easy to see other people and either compare ourselves to them or try and discount or diminish their accomplishments to make ourselves feel better. The fact is the purposes of others are to be celebrated because their greatness does not diminish our opportunity to do great things through Christ for the Kingdom.
Peter asked the Lord about John’s calling saying, “What about him?” Jesus responded, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow Me.” John 21:22.
He’s not forgotten you. He has called you to do something great, regardless of what others are called to.
4.) Your purpose is not something that is coming in the future. Your purpose is now!
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress” – 1 Timothy 4:12, 15.
God has a purpose for you right now in your home, in your job, going about life, with your children and spouse…purpose isn’t something that all of a sudden happens when you turn a certain age, get a house, have children… It is happening now.
5.) Move.
If you have ever tried to teach a little child how to play a sport like baseball or volleyball, you know that you can tell them how to do it, but you can’t coach them or bring clarity until they move. Move your feet, swing the bat, now that, we can work with.
There have been many decisions in my life where I felt like I did not know if I had heard the Lord or not. So many times, my prayer is, “Ok God, I think this is the path that I need to take, so I am just going to move that way. If that is not the direction, then close the door or help me to adjust” … but I have to MOVE.
The Israelites were crossing the Jordan River at flood stage and it did not stop flowing until they put their feet in the water. You can think of many examples in the Bible where the Lord made the way after the people moved.
I know in this season of life, whatever season that may be, you may feel lonely sometimes. Maybe you don’t know yet what your purpose is entirely. Continue being diligent where you are, keep listening for His voice, move your feet. Or maybe you do feel like you know your purpose at least in part, but you feel like the Lord has sent you back to tend the sheep, like He did David after he was anointed king.
I want you to know that the Lord has not forgotten you and He isn’t rethinking you. He sees the Goliaths in your future. He is preparing you to defeat them and fulfill the purposes He has for you. This is training ground. Learn. Swing the bat. Learn to use that sling shot. You are going to need it.
Hebrews 10:39 “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.”
