“When your children grasp for something to hold onto in the middle of the storm, they will reach for the anchor of your family.”

“My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.”  George Washington

“A home with a loving and loyal husband and wife is the supreme setting in which children can be reared in love and righteousness and in which the spiritual and physical needs of children can be met.”  David Bednar

Don’t fall into the trap of believing that when the waves rise and the skies darken that the truths in God’s Word about marriage, covenant, and perseverance are suddenly for everyone else but you.  Don’t fall into the trap of believing that no other marriages have experienced hard times in the same way that you are, that your situation must be different.  So many times, I have heard couples say, “The Lord told me to divorce.” or “I am sure He will make an exception this once.  We are miserable.” It is at that point that you need the anchor more than ever.

You see no one needs an anchor when it is blue skies, a soft breeze and smooth sailing.  We need the anchor when we can’t see the shore, the waves steal our breath and we feel alone. It is in the dark moments when we need the anchor of His Word.  Your teens, your family and friends are counting on you…because when the storm approaches in their lives, they will reach for your hand.

It is no wonder that we are referred to as children of God, heirs with Christ.  Family is a source of strength, security, belonging, peace and love.  Make no mistake, all couples have difficult seasons.  There is no such thing as a perfect marriage, we all struggle at points.  But remember that your marriage is truly an anchor that holds your family and friends tightly in place when the storms of life hit.
